Embryo Transfer

Service description
This service is offered to researchers bringing in live mice or frozen Embryos from outside sources such as collaborators or commercial breeders. Strain rederivation by embryo transfer is highly recommended when obtaining mice from non-SPF sources and is usually mandatory for all strains before they can be send for breeding at SPF facilities such as LASC-Schlieren. Please find details on import restrictions to the LASC-SPF facilities here.
Prerequisites
- A completely filled out request form
- The detailed hygiene report that led to the decision to request an ET
- The GMO datasheet as requested by the veterinary office
- An iRATS breeding project opened under researchers own license to be used for weaned offspring (iRATS users only)
- A sufficient number of animals for the transfer to our quarantine (see general process overview)
Due to hygienic reasons, animals destined for ET via our quarantine must arrive on Thursdays or Fridays. If frozen embryos are provided, details about the freezing and thawing protocols should be forwarded to us.
Costs
- Researchers submitting an ET requests will be charged a total fee of 2700 CHF upon successful completion of the project. This fee includes the ET as well as animal housing costs (incl. quarantine, foster mothers, biopsies, hygiene testing, etc...).
- For embryo transfer of frozen embryos a fee of 2300 CHF applies.
- An additional fee of 700 CHF will be charged if the researcher is unable to provide the required number of animals (see Prerequisite 5). This fee covers the breeding of the required number of animals at the LTK-quarantine facility.
- An additional fee of 700 CHF will be charged when breeding is to be initiated after successful ET, before transfer into target facility.
Note
Depending on the reason for the ET (the health status of your strain), we can supply organs for trial experiments in selected cases (additional costs will apply).
