M-6E Stem cells
Learning objectives and content |
The course will give a basic theoretical and practical overview on different methodologies for the work with different stem cell populations (embryonic, induced pluripotent, mesenchymal and neural crest stem cells). Particular emphasis will be done to the cultivation of embryonic stem cells and the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells. The possible applications in biomedical research and their impact on 3R will be presented. Following contents will be handled: Molecular basis of pluripotency, derivation of embryonic stem cells, generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), characterization and differentiation potential of different stem cell populations, teratoma formation, use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) for therapeutic applications. During the course the participants will also have the possibility to gain practical knowledge on the cultivation of ESCs, the generation and cultivation of iPSC and other technologies like karyotyping, colony picking, passaging, thawing and freezing of iPSC and ESCs, picking of ESC and iPSC clones. |
Criteria |
This course will be given in English. The course is open for PhD-students and scientist which are starting to work or planning to work with stem cells. |
